New Hood Canal Regional Pollution Identification and Correction Grant

HCCC has obtained a new grant from the Puget Sound Shellfish Strategic Initiative Lead for Phase 5 of the Hood Canal Regional Pollution Identification and Correction (PIC) Program. This grant will provide support to Hood Canal’s local health jurisdictions and other water quality partners to prevent pollution from impacting Hood Canal’s communities and waterways. The grant includes funds for:

  • PIC shoreline surveys and pollution investigations
  • Skills advancement trainings
  • Agricultural pollution prevention technical assistance
  • Outreach and education through Mason County schools and families
  • Regional work on emerging water quality challenges including: OSS overuse in shoreline vacation rental homes; sea level rise impacts on shoreline OSS
  • OSS maintenance and repair vouchers
  • Regional coordination support
